A new station building was inaugurated in 1997 to mark the city's 1200th anniversary. The building, designed by Hiroshi Hara, is 70 meters high, 470 meters long and has a floor space of 237,689 m². Architecturally, it incorporates elements of futurism, such as the slightly irregular glass facade on a steel skeleton.

The construction of the station building was highly controversial and was accompanied by protests from trade unions and interest groups.[5]

In addition to the station facilities, the building houses a hotel, shopping center, restaurants, snack bars and other shops and services for travelers; there is an observation deck on the roof.

For me, it is definitely a highlight; you have to see and experience it. Just stop in the entrance hall, look up, and continue to marvel to the right and left.

A temple of glass and steel, a building where the ghosts divorced. The gigantic complex houses, apart from a lot of passengers, restaurants, department stores and the international center of the prefecture of Kyoto.

But the highlight of this station is on top of it, from which one has an outstanding view of the old town of Kyoto and its impressive buildings.

The new central station of Kyoto is one of the largest railway stations in Japan. From here, all kinds of trains travel in various directions, such as the Shinkansen express trains to Osaka and Tokyo, but also commuter trains and a Japanese private train to Nara.
It was designed by Hiroshi Hara and completed in 1997. Its architecture made it a controversial building in Japan.
