The land company Heimstätten AG, which wanted to develop the villa colony Nikolassee, took the initiative to build the station. The train station was of great importance for the success of the founding of the villa suburb. Therefore, from 1901 to 1902, the reception building, which was outstanding for the time, was built according to a design by Fritz Bräuning and Paul Vogler, which combines medieval elements with Art Nouveau.
The Nikolassee train station at the intersection of the Wetzlar Railway and the Wannsee Railway was opened on May 1, 1902. The Wetzlar Railway has been electrified since 1928 and the Wannsee Railway since 1933. The station was given its current form between 1934 and 1938. The pedestrian connection between the platforms was built and suburban traffic was separated from long-distance traffic on the Wetzlar railway.
