The water of the Steffelner Drees shows 3 special features: The concentration of the elements calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) are comparatively low compared to neighboring mineral springs. This could have something to do with the length of time and the depth of the water in the subsurface, but also with the lack of calcareous rocks in the subsurface. The longer and deeper down the water is in contact with the minerals of the adjacent rock, the more minerals are dissolved in the water. This may also have something to do with the content of dissolved CO2, because the more "aggressive" a water is, the more solvent it has. And ultimately it also depends on the host rock itself. Lime, for example, is more soluble than sandstone. Most noticeable in the red color in the area of the source pot. It comes from iron hydroxides and oxides, which are precipitated from the mineral water when the iron dissolved in the water comes into contact with the oxygen in the air. (Display board suburb)
