The Holzhafen nature reserve in Billwerder Bay has a total size of approx. 80 hectares and, with its extensive, tidal areas of water and tidal flats next to the Mühlenberger …
The harbor basin in the south of Billwerder Bucht has been a bird sanctuary since 2013. It was intended to compensate for the filling in of the Mühlenberger Loch (Airbus runway), which is nonsense, as numerous bird species have always been here. The Holzhafen has extensive, tidal mudflats. Rare bird species are native here. It also serves as a resting area for migratory birds.
From the Moorfleeter main dike you have a good view of the nature reserve. I can recommend the NABU tours. If you have your binoculars with you, you have a clear advantage. 😉
The nature reserve was created as a compensation area for the Mühlenburger Loch. I hope it meets the requirements. Driving along it is, however, a fine thing.
