In the city center, no building is allowed to be built higher than the height of the Frauenkirche. The towers still tower over the surrounding buildings. It is considered a landmark of Munich.

The Frauenkirche in Munich, officially the "Cathedral of Our Lady," is one of the city's most famous landmarks. Built between 1468 and 1488 in the late Gothic style, it is particularly known for its two striking towers with their characteristic "Welschen Hauben" (Ilsche Hauben). The church serves as the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and is the seat of the archbishop. Its interior impresses with its high, bright hall, slender columns, and numerous works of art. Despite severe damage during World War II, the Frauenkirche was faithfully rebuilt and is today an important religious, historical, and architectural symbol of Munich.

A church built by the Wittelsbach family had stood on the edge of the former residence since 1240. With the growth of the city and population, it was decided in the 15th century to build a new, more representative church.
The Munich master builder Jörg von Halspach (also known as Jörg Ganghofer) was commissioned to build the brick building. Only 20 years passed from the laying of the foundation stone in 1468 to the completion of the church - at that time a rapid construction progress.
