The Sassnitz city harbor was formerly used as a fishing port and as a ferry port.
Today the harbor is predominantly fishing and tourism harbor, here is also a fishery and harbor museum with the museum cutter "Havel".
From the harbor you can also book tours with various excursion boats.
Various pubs and restaurants invite you to linger and enjoy.

The really best thing about the harbor is, you can buy fresh fish here.
The fish sandwiches are delicious, but watch out while enjoying! The gulls taste the fishbreads just as well!
In addition, the city harbor with the Ostmole, which towers to the lighthouse about 1400 meters into the Baltic Sea, has the longest outer mole in Europe.

The port of Sassnitz, at 1,450 meters, has one of the longest pier in the Baltic Sea. In the harbor and at the pier you get everything the heart of the Ostseeurlaubers desires: fresh fish, fish sandwiches, souvenirs ... A restaurant ship is located directly on the pier. In the harbor are some shops and supermarkets.
Until the eighties, the ferry departed from Sassnitz for Sweden. Trucks, cars and entire freight trains had to go through the city to get on the ferries. At that time here must have been day and night operation. Since 1986, the ferries leave from the new ferry port Sassnitz-Mukran. It is much quieter in the city now.
The actual old town is beautifully situated on the hillside with typical white houses for the Baltic Sea coast. Stairs connect the beach promenade to the city.
