                    An English country estate in a Westphalian moated castle

                    The Irish industrial pioneer William Thomas Mulvany (1806-1885) acquired Haus Goldschmieding in 1872 to live there temporarily and, in keeping with English custom, to use it as a country estate with his family in the summer. Mulvany had the area around Haus Goldschmieding laid out as an English landscape garden, but the historical features have not been preserved, so the garden is not listed as a historical monument

                      "The Golschmieding Park is a representative landscape park that stretches extensively on the back of the Goldschmieding manor house and leads naturally to the higher forest areas of the Schellenberg.

                      With the purchase of the Goldschmieding house by William Thomas Mulvany, the founder of the Erin mine and president of the Prussian mining and steelworks company, a turning point occurred in 1872. This prepared the way for the later structures of the complex. The Mulvany family originally had the park laid out in the English garden style: a wide open lawn, crossed by a stream that is fed by three springs in the park. They had previously supplied the moat that surrounded the building with water. Today, an oval pond with an artificial island forms a body of water, as a visual replacement for the moat, so to speak.

                      In 1978, the park at the Goldschmieding house was opened to the public by the city's garden and cemetery office, while preserving the historical conditions.

                      Curved paths lead up into the forest. Numerous modern sculptures decorate the park. The garden parterre with a roundabout and flowerbeds extends between the hotel complex and the manor house. The rose garden is worth mentioning.

                      The park and the manor house form an anchor point in the city's history. This is an example of how the cultural landscape of the pre-industrial era was taken up and transformed by the history of mining."
