Definitely make a detour there if you are nearby.
From the castle you have a very nice view of the Rhine Valley.
The castle itself has been restored and houses a very good youth hostel.

Stahleck Castle can be found in Bacherach (near Rheinböllen), defiantly guarding the Rhine Valley. A youth hostel is housed in the castle, which is ideal for excursions in the area.
The castle is mentioned for the first time as a fiefdom of the Archbishop of Cologne in 1136. In 1194 the warring houses of the Guelphs and Hohenstaufen were reconciled through a marriage.
In 1666 and 1689 the castle was destroyed. In 1926 it was rebuilt according to old plans. Today the castle is home to a youth hostel.
In the village of Bacherach there are other preserved buildings, for example the old city wall with 9 preserved towers. Half-timbered houses from the 14th to 19th centuries round off the old and beautiful townscape.
There are parking spaces above the castle. From here a somewhat bumpy path goes to the lookout point and then on to the castle.

Fantastically beautiful castle in the Middle Rhine Valley with a great youth hostel.
We were able to use the rest areas outside on our hike. There was also coffee, ice cream and cake and you can use the public toilet👌👌👌
Everything very well maintained and nice staff
