The Schwansener See was created by a spit hook, which was formed from material from the Schönhagener Kliff to the north and was thus separated from the sea. The lake is now sweet and a great nature reserve with countless species of birds!

Originally, the area belonged to the Baltic Sea, only for about 100 years, it is separated from the sea by gravel and sand deposits from Schönhagener cliff ago and now almost completely ausüßt. The lake can not be circumnavigated on foot, swimming is also prohibited here. But do not forget your binoculars, as you can find up to 120 breeding bird species here from the ornithological station.
