Schloss Holtfeld is a Renaissance moated castle from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is privately owned and is not open to the public.
The castle Holtfeld was first mentioned in 1380 in an Osnabrück Lehnsregister. The lords of Todrank, who were based on the castle Ravensberg, were considered owners. In 1497 this family died out, and by the last inheritance daughter the castle fell to the imperial freedmen of Wendt, who inhabited the castle until 1863.
From 1599 to 1602 the manor house was built in Renaissance style during this period. The inner gate building was built in 1632, the outer 1705. At the beginning of the 18th century, the system was redesigned.

In 1863, the counts of Marchant d'Ansembourg inherited the castle and 600 acres of land. The counts gave the castle on a sideline, which sold it to the Counts of Galen. However, these did not have the means to repair the castle, and leased the castle. In 1936 the counts of Korff-Schmising in Tatenhausen bought the building.
In the 1930s, the building had deteriorated greatly and could not be inhabited. After renovation in 1936, the agricultural school moved in here. In 1945, the writer Hans Roselieb took his own life here. After use as a lung sanatorium, the castle was operated until 1977 as a hotel. Then apartments were created in the outbuildings, the castle now serves as an office, exhibition and apartment.
