During the Peasants' War on June 2, 1525 a battle between the united Neckartaler and Odenwalder clusters and the knighthood under Georg Truchsess von Waldburg-Zeil took place on the Turmberg near Königshofen, in which several thousand peasants were killed. Before the battle, Götz von Berlichen and Count von Wertheim left the peasantry. The Count of Wertheim switched to the federal government. When the Bundish cavalry stormed the flanks of the peasant positions, the meeting had already been decided, as the few guns of the peasants were operated by ignorant people. Around 8,000 farmers were killed in the slaughter. The princes themselves took part in the persecution of the fleeing peasants. It would seem funny to you, like a pig-chase, observed a contemporary observer. Only a few hundred farmers managed to escape. On the evening of the same day Truchseß von Waldburg-Zeil, the leader of the federal army, had four peasants executed in Koenigshofen. In the battle all 300 citizens of Königshofen were killed except for 15. That was only the beginning of a terrible criminal court of the princes. [5]
