There are only two fortresses of this type between Hamburg and Cuxhaven. Interesting for adults and children. If you're lucky, you can take part in a guided tour. Then you go through the former living and service rooms of the well-preserved fortress. There is a café in the inner courtyard of the ring-shaped complex. Bring your time and go on a discovery tour. Here we experience history not from a book, but from the object! That's what makes it exciting.

The artillery fort Grauerort was built by Prussia from 1869 to 1879 to protect against enemy ships on the Elbe, but was never used for the purpose of military combat. The fortress is now a popular venue for cultural events. The facility is maintained by a development association and a light railroad runs on the site.
