A piece of the Vulkanradwegs on the old railway line Oberwaldbahn lies between the castles Ortenberg and Gedern. Great to drive, beautiful scenery and beautiful start and finish. Past the castle Lißberg. The Oberwaldbahn reached the highest permissible slope on this route towards Gedern and continues up to Upper Seemen. The question "Up or Down?" Is standard among the hosts and cyclists along the route. Downwards means: It may be a glass of wine more. :-)

The former Vogelsbergbahn between the Glauburg-Stockheim railway stations on the Gießen – Gelnhausen and Lauterbach (Hess) Nord railway lines on the Gießen – Fulda railway line is now known as the Oberwaldbahn. The 65-kilometer branch line ran along the Nidder and over the Vogelsberg. The Vogelsberger Südbahn led from Hartmannshain station to the Wächtersbach station on the Kinzigtalbahn.
