In 1980 the new castle was bought by the state together with a 5000 square meter plot of land. After that, the building stood empty for many years and people considered whether it should not just be demolished. In the end it was sold in 1989 to the current owners, Krista and Steffen Steffensen. It was thoroughly renovated and set up as a delightful castle hotel with 17 wonderful rooms, a restaurant and a café.
