Carrauntoohil is the highest mountain in Ireland at 1,038.6 metres. It is on the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, close to the centre of Ireland's highest mountain range, MacGillycuddy's Reeks. With amazing views from the top on a clear day and the iconic cross at the summit can be seen from the bottom. A hike that should be ok your list when visiting Kerry or Ireland!

Carrauntoohil is the highest mountain in Ireland at 1,038 meters. A wooden cross, newly erected in 2014, sits enthroned on its top, from where you have a fantastic view of the mountain range and the lakes of the Killarney National Park when the weather is nice.

Warning: 1,000 meters in altitude is very high for the Irish latitudes and the weather can be very uncomfortable even in summer. Be sure to bring warm and, above all, wind- and waterproof clothing and wear good mountain boots, especially if the summit is veiled in clouds. The ascent and descent can be very dangerous when it rains and you should plan about six hours for it.
