The Schenkenburg was built around 1250. The stump of the keep is still standing and parts of the Palas, the former hall building, are still there and protrude up to 16 meters in height. Some of the kennels are still there, but overgrown.

You will find an Italian restaurant at the foot of the castle ruins. Tuesdays are closed there.

Easy to reach after a short climb. Be careful, the stair stones are very slippery when wet. It's good that a retaining steel cable is attached.
The many display boards are very informative and well illustrated.

The castle ruins can also be reached within a few walking minutes outside a hiking tour. The signposting of a small circuit with a detailed description of the ruin and its former appearance is perfect. Also for children an entertaining highlight!

Attention, the altitude difference is wrong. Measurement errors have crept in.

A visit to the Schenkenburg ruins is worthwhile not only because of the beautiful view, but also because of the path around the castle, which describes the structure of the castle and its purpose using 10 well-explanatory panels.
A visit to the Schenkenburg can be combined with a hike on the rafting path or a visit to the Schiltach / Schenkenzell swimming pool.

I got to know the town of Schenkenzell yesterday on my hike to Schiltach and immediately fell in love with it ❤️. Anyone who walks through this beautiful place with open eyes can explore a lot, a beautiful landscape, a warm atmosphere in the place of gastronomy on the hiking trails and around Schenkenzell that was unique. The 🏰 castle ruins with the view of the beautiful mountains and the great place. I can only recommend this place and will definitely come back on my next hike

On my hike from Aischfeld to Alpirsbach and on to Schenkenzell, my destination was Schiltach. But the place Schenkenzell has already impressed me a lot 💪. The landscape all around is beautiful. The place itself is very interesting and highly recommended. There is a lot to explore and stories to read and admire about the raftsmen who lived on the Kinzig River. There is a nice park on the Kinzig, there is a cute coffee and a trucking company that has a truck on the roof of the hall did a great job. And many more........ The Schenkenburg is a dream you have a super nice view from up there ☝️ and the way there is very interesting. I can only recommend this place on the way to Schiltach.
