The complex was built in the 13th century by the Count von Rieneck. After their extinction, the castle fell to the Count of Erbach. Wildenstein Castle was abandoned at the end of the 17th century

The ruins of Wildenstein Castle are mysteriously located in the Spessart and can be reached on foot from the Eschauer Schützenhaus in about 30 minutes on the "Keiler" trail. The complex dates from the 13th century and was built to defend the Rienecker counts against the Electors of Mainz. The castle fell into disrepair after the count family ceased to exist in the 16th century.

Very nice small castle ruins with a bat cellar (but closed in the winter months). The ruin itself is not too big, but it is very quiet and beautiful and can be built in as a stopover if you want to walk to the moated castle Oberaulenbach + deer park, for example.

Wildenstein Castle is the only castle ruin in the inner Spessart that has been largely preserved. It belongs to the hamlet of Wildenstein, a district of Eschau in the Lower Franconian district of Miltenberg in Bavaria.
She is absolutely recommendable.

The ruins of Wildenstein Castle are currently still being "lovingly" restored. A beautiful path leads from Unteraulenbach to the ruins and on to the Geißhöhe. Also in winter a great place with a beautiful view
