After the last mine was closed on October 3, 1990, the Ehrenfriedersdorf visitor mine opened. Here you can experience the Ore Mountains' vein mining up close. Equipped with a protective helmet and flashlight, overalls and boots, you can learn about ore mining in different eras at a depth of 100 meters. The visitor mine offers several different tours.

Ehrenfriedersdorf, founded around 1190 as a so-called forest settlement, today with around 6,000 inhabitants, located on the B95 federal highway between Chemnitz and Oberwiesenthal in front of Annaberg-Buchholz, is one of the most well-known mining towns in the Ore Mountains.

The tin mine is an impressive complex of mining objects, excellently staged in conjunction with a diverse world of experiences. With its almost 750-year history, mainly in the area of silver and tin ore mining, the Ehrenfriedersdorf tunnel is one of the most traditional and extensive visitor mines ever.

You can be fascinated by everything from medieval history to the use of the most modern mining technology or even by using hammers and iron yourself. The cable car system makes it possible to travel over 100 meters deep into the Sauberg, in which most of the mine is located.

The large, widely visible winding tower is the symbol of the great mining tradition in Ehrenfriedersdorf above ground and is also an unmissable signpost for all visitors.

The range of experiences is not limited to the underground tours and is optimally tailored to every interest and age group. In the Mineralogical Museum you will find one of the most extensive collections of deposits with well over a thousand mineral specimens, unique functional models and original finds from medieval mining. In the gemstone cutting workshop, visitors can not only experience the old tradition of the gemstone cutting craft up close, but can also learn the basics of the craft or give their own gemstones the "finishing touch".
