The Stone Agnes

The Stone Agnes (1305 m above sea level) is a bizarre rock form on the Dreisesselberg in the Latten Mountains in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The old stone dairyman is found on old maps.

The rock formation south of the Keilkopf lies in the district of Bischofswiesener Forst in the municipality of Bischofswiesen, is about 15 meters high and consists of Ramsaudolomite.

The ascent of the rock has difficulty level V (UIAA). The stone Agnes was climbed for the first time in 1929 by M. Hartmann and M. Bode.

According to a legend, the Stone Agnes is a petrified, godly and chaste dairymaid. To protect her from the devil's reenactments, she was turned to stone. On the contrary, according to another tradition, she was a prostitute who killed her own illegitimate child and was petrified for it.
