According to legend, “Around the year 1656”, a wax picture was attached to a three-stemmed oak tree by the Horner furrier Mathias Weinberger (it is said to be a historically verifiable Mathias Weingartner) on the Molderberg on the road from Horn to Eggenburg. After this image was destroyed by fire, the mayor of Horner Sebastian Friedrich had the statue of grace renewed in 1679 based on the original in wood. As the pilgrimage flow increased rapidly, in 1700 Count Hoyos built a hermitage at the "Bründl" as the landlord in order to ensure constant care of the miraculous image. This hermitage existed until it was repealed by Emperor Joseph II in 1782.

The baroque church with the famous dome fresco by Paul Troger also harbors the miraculous image of "Painful Our Lady of Maria Dreieichen"

The basilica lies on the wooded back of the Manhartsberg. The church is one of the most beautiful pilgrimage churches in Austria and is decorated with the last work by Paul Troger - a large dome fresco.
