Salm Castle was built between 1205 and 1225 by Henry III, Count of Salm (of Upper Lorraine).

The site of Salm Castle is located in a remarkable forest setting of the Vosges sandstone of the upper Bruche valley. A partially preserved medieval path will take you there from the Salm plateau, a former high place of Anabaptist presence in the Vosges.

Salm Castle is located in an area of silence and protection of the large capercaillie.

Since 2004, the site rehabilitation work undertaken by the Veilleurs de Salm association has brought to light walls that were no longer suspected and gradually provided a better understanding of the different stages of construction.
