The Cistercian monastery in Buch bei Leisnig founded an economic monastery courtyard in Belgern in 1258 (oldest evidence of Saxon Gothic in Belgern). This farm yard held a very special position at that time. Its characteristics were on the one hand the great economic importance and on the other hand the relative closeness of the entire sphere of influence around Belgians.
Due to the size of the monastery courtyard, it was already regarded as a subsidiary of Buch. In 1309, Landgrave Friedrich the Joyful donated the entire city to the monastery. From 1370 the monastery even acquired part of the city's jurisdiction.
The monastery courtyard is now a listed building and houses the Protestant parish office, a community room and apartments.
