The Crystal Geyser is not a geothermal phenomenom as you might expect. It is a rare example of a cold-water carbon dioxide driven geyser. The geyser can errupt up to 120 feet, producting thick layers of orange travertine that flow to the shore of the nearby Green River. The first record of the geyser is dated back to the Powell Geographic Expedition of 1869, July 13, 1869. The current appearance however is a result of an exploration well that was drilled here in 1935 searching for oil. It is a pretty cool spot to make camp for the night.
