Lemvig was first mentioned by name in 1234, at that time still under the spelling Læmvich or Lemvich, which consisted of the situation at the Wik and the proximity to the municipality Lem. However, the settlement of the area and the place itself is to be set much earlier, because there were found relics from the Stone Age and burial mounds from the Bronze Age can indeed be visited, but are under protection.
Today, Lemvig is the main town of the municipality of the same name and is very popular with tourists due to its idyllic location on the Limfjord. The landscape was shaped by the last ice age, so that presents a rich, varied nature picture. This nature can be experienced on hikes, but also on excursions by bike or on horseback and the Vinkelhage beach with its beautiful sandy beach and shallow fjord water is popular with young and old.
Lemvig itself has colorful harbor scenery with fish auction, pedestrian zone and the small local train "mountain railway" on holiday attractions and also offers shops for daily needs. Here can still be spent a very relaxing holiday, without having to do without the amenities of restaurants and shopping. Also interesting is the sculpture trail "Planetsti" (in English "planet path"). On the outskirts of the city center is the model of the sun, made of bronze, and other planets are set up everywhere in the city and on the banks of the Limfjord at scale.
