    ハイキング

Vogelsang is one of nine High Sierra Camps. It is nestled into the High Sierra at an elevation of 10,000 feet, making it the highest location of all High Camps. It is kind of a luxury camp with twelve tent cabins that you can book way in advance via a lottery system. A night is 152 Dollars. The camp has no showers, but you can take a dip in the beautiful surrounding alpine lakes like Fletcher Lake, Vogelsang Lake, Everlyn Lake and Ireland Lake. The camp was established in 1940.

    ハイキング

For those who prefer glamping, you can book guided tours where luggage is transported and you stay in comfortable tents. Toilets, a kitchen and even showers are available for paying guests.
Backpacker's Camp is about 300 meters further.
When I visited in 2022, however, the camp did not seem to have been set up. Everything lay quite untouched and confused on the floor. Similar at the Merced Lake High Sierra Camp.

The most common route to Vogelsang High Sierra Camp is a challenging 7.5-mile (12.2 km) hike from Tioga Road, typically starting from the Tuolumne Meadows area. This trail features a consistent ascent, gaining approximately 1,400 feet (427 meters) in elevation from the trailhead to the camp, which sits at 10,130 feet (3,100 meters). It's considered a strenuous hike due to the distance and sustained climb at high altitude.

Are there any specific permits or reservations required to stay at Vogelsang High Sierra Camp?

Yes, staying at Vogelsang High Sierra Camp requires advance reservations due to its high demand and limited capacity. Reservations are allocated through an annual lottery system, making it a highly sought-after experience. It's crucial to plan well in advance and participate in the lottery if you wish to secure a spot.

What are the parking options for hikers heading to Vogelsang High Sierra Camp?

Hikers typically park near the Tuolumne Meadows area along Tioga Road (Hwy 120) to access the Rafferty Creek Trailhead, which is the primary starting point for the hike to Vogelsang. Parking can fill up quickly, especially during peak season, so arriving early in the morning is highly recommended to secure a spot.

Is Vogelsang High Sierra Camp suitable for families with children?

While the camp offers a unique wilderness experience, the 7.5-mile hike to reach it is challenging due to its length and significant elevation gain at high altitude. It may be suitable for families with older, experienced hiking children, but it is generally not recommended for beginners or very young children. Consider the fitness level and experience of all family members before planning this trip.

Can I bring my dog to Vogelsang High Sierra Camp or on the trails leading to it?

No, dogs are generally not permitted on the trails leading to Vogelsang High Sierra Camp, nor are they allowed to stay at the camp itself. Yosemite National Park has strict regulations regarding pets on trails, especially in the backcountry, to protect wildlife and natural resources.
