The alluvial ponds were probably created at the beginning of the 15th century. As you can guess, for mining purposes. The region is bursting with it. No longer relevant for mining, the sheep bred here were washed in these ponds before being sheared. Allegedly, wool was a very special export product at that time, as it was of very high quality. Today the beautiful ponds are more an insider tip for hot summer days. But isn't it amazing that even a pond has a historical story to tell?

The stream that has been dammed to form the alluvial ponds flows into the Mortelgrund at the Mortelmühle. Overall, the area with its bodies of water, riverbanks, mountain meadows and wet meadows represents a very valuable habitat.
