The Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen station was a junction of the German Federal Railroad in the east of Wuppertal, today the Oberbarmen district. The station was originally called Oberbarmen and was shut down in the 1990s. The station area was reused and partially built over in the 2010s, and there are still railway relics along the northern railway line.

About history:
n September 15, 1879, the station was opened under the name Ober-Barmen Rh and belonged to the then independent municipality of Barmen. In 1890 the line to Rittershausen (today Oberbarmen station) was laid out, making the station a wedge station. Towards the end of the 19th century, the station was given the district name Wichlinghausen and was therefore called Barmen-Wichlinghausen. It was not until 1929 that the municipalities and towns of Vohwinkel, Elberfeld and Barmen, Ronsdorf and Cronenberg and their associated districts were amalgamated to form today's town of Wuppertal that the station received its final name. [1]

The station was closed to passenger traffic on September 27, 1991, almost 112 years after it opened. The goods traffic was then operated from the Wuppertal-Langerfeld freight yard until the station was completely closed in 1995. [1]

Converted station area in 2013
In 2007, the Wuppertal movement set up a piece of cycle path on the station grounds as an illustrative example. [1] In the following years she converted the entire northern railway line as a cycle and footpath, later also the so-called Schwarzbach route. A new residential area ("Bergisches Plateau") was developed on the approximately 10-hectare marshalling yard by 2017, and a small park was created in the south. In cooperation between the city of Wuppertal and the local sports scene, the neighboring school center east, the sports science department of the Bergische Universität and the parkour expert Sebastian Gies, Germany's largest outdoor parkour facility, the Parkour Plateau, was built for 370,000 euros. [3] The platforms of the northern line with roofing will still be available in 2021 and will be integrated into the system.

Great old, disused railway line. One of the few bike and hiking trails in the Bergisches Land with very little incline. One direction leads through the urban landscape of Wuppertal in the direction of Vohwinkel, in the other direction the rural railway line leads to the Schee separation station and from there on to Hattingen or Silschede.

Wichlinghausen was the easternmost Wuppertal train station on the route of the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (REG, sometimes RhE or in Wuppertal “Nordbahn” as a product of the media). It was established when the line was founded in 1879.

The Rheinische Linie was finally shut down for passenger traffic at the end of September 1991, and a year later also for freight traffic.
