Perched on a rock 90 meters above the Danube stands the Gebrochen Gutenstein castle—at least, what's left of it. The name Gebrochen Gutenstein comes from the fact that the building has been a ruin for 500 years. Its original name was Neugutenstein. The ruins are freely accessible and offer a magnificent view of the Danube Valley.

The castle was originally called Neugutenstein, later called Niedergutenstein. Since its disintegration, the name "broken gutter stone" has prevailed for the plant.
The ruin stands on a spur at the confluence of the Schmeie in the Danube between Inzigkofen and Gutenstein.
The Felsenburg consisted of the Kernburg lying on an isolated rock and a farmyard lying on the adjacent area. On the approximately triangular core castle was the residential tower, from which two-storey remains of the walls were preserved. The lower castle was located in the shelter of a rock overhang. From her only small remnants of the wall remained.

The ruins of the broken Gutenstein in the Upper Danube Valley is one of the most exposed and difficult to reach castle ruins in the Swabian Alb.
That is, the core castle on the crag is not accessible at all - unless you are a very good rock climber with adequate climbing equipment. However, the rock is not released for climbing.
