The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Vilar is a sanctuary in the municipality of Blanes (Selva) located in the Sierra de Marina, which acts as an important center of attraction for the whole region. The eponymous joys are a song in honor of the Virgin dating back to the seventeenth century. The building is a work included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

The sanctuary is a monumental complex made up of the hermitage, the terraced farmhouse and the outer courtyards. The hermitage has a gabled roof with a barrel vault, a side chapel, an apse, a large presbytery with a two-storey head and a belfry at the foot of the nave. At the entrance there is a wide access porch. The apse is trapezoidal and covered with an edge vault and six ribs. The first floor of the head is formed by the octagonal enclosure of the sacristy and the second by the chancel where the image of the Virgin sporadically rests during the dates indicated.

The first news is from 1323, when the Bishop of Girona Pere de Rocabertí mentions the obligation of the rector of Blanes to officiate masses at the Vilar during the local festivities. Despite this, there is a tradition, included in the work of Gaspar Roig i Jalpí (1624-1691), the "Llibre dels feyts d'armes de Catalunya", according to which the image was found on August 5, 1012 by a shepherdess in a spring near the Vilar. From 1609-12, when the building was completely renovated and completed in 1665 with the side chapel, a gathering was held every Easter Tuesday.

In 1912, a ceremony was held to commemorate the ninth centenary of the legend of the meeting of the Virgin. During the revolutionary events of 1936-39, the hermitage was set on fire and the baroque altar, votive offerings and other furniture disappeared, although the image was preserved with great effort, hidden in the forest. This image, about 50 centimeters long and made of polychrome wood with the Virgin and her son on her lap, dates from the second half of the thirteenth century. Like the sanctuary, the image was restored in the 1940s. Between 1940-50, the restoration of the temple was carried out by the architect Isidre Puig i Boada and the sculptors and potters Josep Roig, Antoni Cumella and Jaume Busquets. In 1955, the canonical and Roman coronation of the image of the Virgin was celebrated by the Archbishop of Tarragona and the Bishop of Girona. This was such an important event that the 25th (1980) and 50th (2005) are commemorated.
