you can take a short walk across the peat from the nature gate across the street. if you extend the route a bit and turn right half way through you will pass an old German light stand.

Located on the Deurnesche Peel nature reserve and close to the former peat colonies of Helenaveen and Griendtsveen, Natuurpoort De Peel offers access to a unique wetland area on the border of North Brabant and Limburg. Countless special plants grow in this varied landscape of puddles, plains, bushes and sand ridges. Moreover, it is one of the richest bird areas in Western Europe and a beautiful walking and cycling area with a rich history of peat extraction.
