Of the ten bridging canals with which the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal was led across rivers, roads and cuttings, only the two that are close to each other remain today - namely this one over the Gauchsbach and the better known one further east over the Schwarzach - and one over a small street near Beilngries.

It gets its name from Gauch, the Old and Middle High German name for the cuckoo. This was probably a typical forest bird for the area through which the river flows and can still sometimes be heard there today.
The stream flows under a water bridge, the Gauchsbach Bridge Canal, crosses the Ludwig-Donau-Main Canal, flows around Gugelhammer Castle and behind the Heinrich-Müller-Straße factory site in Röthenbach/St.Wolfgang at (♁⊙, 337 m above sea level. NN) flows into the Schwarzach coming from the south.
