The giant egg, which once supplied the towns of Lanstrop, Derne, Mengede, Brambauer and parts of the city of Lünen as well as the surrounding mines of Harpener Bergbau AG with Ruhrwasser, sits enthroned on a strong steel pole and a square steel frame. With the construction of the ice, toilet flushing and taps began to enter the region in 1906. The tower also offered a higher standard of hygiene and ensured a constant water pressure and an emergency supply in the event of a pipe break between the pumping station and the egg. The water tower supplied the region with drinking water until 1980. Since it was decommissioned - despite the protection of historical monuments - the rust has taken over the egg and has added a lot to it.
