I've been on the hiking trails between Niederkrüchten and Brüggen on Lake Born several times and I've always enjoyed taking a break here. Others have already written a lot of good things about the beauty of the lake and the landscape. I can only agree there.

Borner Lake was created in the 16th to 18th centuries by mining peat.
Today it is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists.
The lake has an area of around 127 hectares. At its deepest point it goes down 1 meter in the lake.

A beautiful view follows the other if you not only visit the water, but also plan a walk around the lake. The approximately two-kilometer patschel path takes you around Lake Borner. Patschel is an otter from the novel "Patschel vom Schwalmtal" by village teacher and local poet Heinrich Malzkorn, who found his final resting place here in the Borner Friedhof. The popular otter was lovingly designed in bronze by sculptor Uwe Meints for the fountain in front of the Borner church.
The Wasser.Blick is located at the rest area directly below the church on the lake. You can start the tour here. The path leads along the water and opens attractive viewing windows on the parish church of St. Peter from the other side of the lake. On the south bank, which is particularly protected for bird life, the route takes a little distance from the lake. Through varied landscape you get to the Schwalm and finally back to the starting point. The lake was created in the 16th to 18th centuries by mining peat, which was used as fuel. The Kranenbach flushed a lot of soil into the lake, so that the lake finally silted up. In the 1970s it was excavated again as a water retention basin for flood protection and since then it has been an attraction for birds and those seeking relaxation ... "
