    The neo-Romanesque Redeemer Chapel in Mirbach - also known as the "Eifeldom" - was built in 1902/1903 by Baron Ernst von Mirbach, a Prussian official at the court of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The chapel is extremely magnificent, with great gold mosaics and stained glass windows. You would not expect this in a small Eifel town. A must-see! Open daily from around 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

      The builder of the Chapel of the Redeemer, built in 1902, was Ernst Freiherr von Mirbach. The plans and drafts were largely designed by him. The architect Max Spitta was initially commissioned to carry out the construction in 1902, but he died that same year on December 12, 1902. The new construction work was entrusted to the builder of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin, architect Franz Schwechten. Construction began on April 9th, 1902 and on September 25th, 1903, the ceremonial consecration was carried out by the Vicar General Reuss from Trier.
      As a result of the war and the post-war period, the Redeemer Chapel fell into disrepair, so that the builder's son donated the chapel to the Catholic community of Wiesbaum in 1956, which from then on has to pay for its maintenance and care. She was and is supported by the diocese, the state, the district and many donors. This enabled extensive renovations to be carried out in the years 1956 to 1959, 1974 and 1975, 1989 and 2006.       For me one of the most beautiful churches in the entire Eifel. Just as she reminds @Shaya of Constantinople, I feel reminded of the Orthodox churches of Russia. The gold mosaics inside the chapel are also absolutely worth seeing.
