    Shortly after the Ponte Vecchio, an easily walkable path begins, which always leads along the Toscolano stream into the Valle delle Cartiere. Paper has been made from rags in the valley since at least the 14th century. At the beginning of the 17th century there were around 60 paper mills there. Almost brought to a standstill by the plague, production experienced a new upswing at the beginning of the 18th century, until it finally came to an end with industrialization. The last paper mill closed in 1962. The path leads along the ruins of the buildings. There are many display boards (also in German) with information about the buildings, the history and the flora.

    One of the buildings houses a museum and there is a small café. The path through the valley is very beautiful and there is a lot to see.

          Highly Recommended. But the way through the old tunnels and along the river is beautiful.
          Unfortunately the further way to the museum was closed because of rockfall. From there, there are no other roads, so we had to turn around and look further from Toscolano

                Large and free parking lot. Is unfortunately not excellent in place. Just continue on the road and through the two tunnels.

                    The paper mill in Mains inferiore has been restored and a museum about the history of the paper mill valley and paper production has been set up that is well worth seeing. There is a small shop at the museum ticket office, where you can also buy some paper products.
                    We also recommend the small bistro that is located outside the museum by the stream. Refreshments and small, fresh snacks at reasonable prices invite you to take a break.
