The gallery mouth of the Turteltaube colliery is located about 120 meters northwest of today's prayer house. The original gallery portal is now decayed, so that only one pipe can be seen in a swath on the mountainside. Through the pipe, the still important ventilation of the mines is guaranteed. Due to the 355 meter long conveyor tunnel turtle pigeon, the coal was mined from the 1.40 meter thick seam of the Mausegatt. The turtle dove Tarteltaube existed between 1731 and 1837, before they had to close due to exhaustion of coal reserves.

The mining trail in the Muttental is the best known of its kind in the Ruhr area. On weekends with nice weather it can get crowded.
