So much history in this town I would recommend finding one fo the free online guides. The history of the town's role in smuggling is great. Lots of nice little shops and pubs too.

You should at least make a short detour to the medieval dollhouse in Rye and stroll through the narrow cobbled streets.
The original shops offer great ideas for unusual souvenirs, and there are plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat. What's not so great? Parking!
So maybe park down in the town and walk up!
