The historic ruins of Beller Church stand idyllically on the Steigerberg. In 2019, the 500th anniversary of the church, built on compacted sand, was celebrated, and prehistoric finds even prove that this site has been used by people for religious and cultural purposes for much longer.
I find the discussion about the naming interesting, as there are many theories. The most frequently cited reference is to the mighty poplar trees (=Bellen) that dominated the scene at the foot of the church as recently as the early 20th century. However, "Bella Maria" in connection with the church's patron saint and the Celtic spring god Belenos also appear in current or past discussions. Source: bellerkirche.de
If the parking lot at the church is full, you can park at the village community center in Eckelsheim (300 m).

The Bell Church was presumably destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, but no further details are known.
Until 1902, the Bell Market—probably the largest and most famous of its kind in the southwestern region—was held around the Bell Church.
