The ruins of Breitenegg Castle are the ruins of a spur castle on a mountain peak that protrudes eastward into the Laaber Valley in the Breitenbrunn district of Breitenegg in the district of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz.
The facility is listed as a listed monument by Breitenegg.
It is also listed as a ground monument as "archaeological findings in the area of the medieval castle and the early modern castle of Breitenegg".

The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1229 and was also built around that year by the lords of Breitenbrunn. From about 1247 to 1289 it was owned by Werner V. von Laaber, who was mentioned in a document in 1275. After several changes of ownership, the castle was sold to the brothers Martin and Ludwig von Wildenstein in 1473. The family converted to Protestantism around 1550 and lost control of the castle in the process. Although formally still Roman-German, the Wittelsbach family actually took over control of the castle.
In 1624 Emperor Ferdinand enfeoffed the Duke or Elector Maximilian with the castle of Breitenegg after he had raised Johann T'Serclaes Tilly to the rank of count the year before. His great-granddaughter Anna Maria finally left the castle when she built the Tilly Castle in Breitenbrunn in the valley.

The former castle complex with Romanesque and Gothic walls is separated from the hinterland by a wide moat. A part of the 12 meter high keep measuring around eight by eight meters and parts of the ring wall made of hump ashlar and quarry stone are still preserved.
