The lower district of Bulnes, also called La Villa, is beautifully situated in the mountains and is extremely beautiful to look at, the pretty little houses are in very good condition, there are restaurants and hostels for hikers - without affecting the townscape.

You cannot go to Bulnes by car, there are only a few electric vehicles in the village. You can reach Bulnes with the Funicular de Bulnes (cable car in the tunnel) from Poncebos, alternatively with a hike from Poncebos, Sotres or of course on the way down from the Refugio at Naranjo de Bulnes. If you walk the beginning of the path in the direction of Sotres, after a few meters you will come to a vantage point with a good view of the Naranjo de Bulnes, you should at least go that far.

The last third of the way to Bulnes coming down from Sotres is, as the Spaniards say, "a puta madre" - rocky, muddy, heavily used by cattle, sometimes steep and slippery. It's definitely not a walk.
It would be better to take the path up to the Refugio Uriello and then descend to Bulnes.
Bulnes itself is a wonderful place with amazing stone houses, tourist shops and restaurants. The higher Bulnes or Bulnes alto offers a great restaurant "El Cayeton" which offers fresh patatas bravas with delicious salad. Wonderful hosts.

Since there are a lot of cars parked at the cable car, it is recommended to take the bus or a taxi (10 €) from Arenas to Poncebo.
