The center of the Cistercian monastery is the pilgrimage church of St. Mary, built in 1914/15, which houses the miraculous image of the "Sorrowful Mother of Stiepel" from the 15th century. The 14 resident monks, aged 27 to 75, who live according to the Rule of St. Benedict, work in the pastoral care of the monastery parish and pilgrimage. Furthermore, the Cistercian monks offer spiritual contemplation in the monastery, which has been enriched since 1996 by the lecture series "Auditorium Kloster Stiepel". The concert series "Marienlob in Lied und Musik" has been part of Stiepel's multifaceted range since 1959. The small but fine Stiepeler monastery shop is unique in Bochum and sells, among other things, the specially produced Monastic Dry Gin. The “Klosterhof” restaurant also takes care of your physical well-being. But the Cistercian motto applies everywhere: "Porta patet - magis cor": "The door is open and even more so the heart!"
