Wikipedia provides good information on the history of the Kaiserbahnhof:
"The so-called Kaiserbahnhof in Brühl-Kierberg is one of the most beautiful reception buildings in Germany. It was built in 1877 at the end of the Kaiserstraße leading up from downtown Brühl in a small park. It owes its particularly elaborate design to Kaiser Wilhelm I, to whom the train station as a stopover The autumn maneuvers were used for his annual visits to the Eifel. A siding was specially laid out on the north side of the route for the imperial train. In this respect, the historic station was also a real station in the sense of the Reichsbahn definition. From the station the emperor drove with the coach over the Kaiserstraße to the Brühler Schloss, where he stayed. The park surrounding the train station is adorned with numerous sculptures based on ancient models.

A lot of things come together here that make a good tour day. Today's DB stop on the Cologne-Trier route is an ideal start and finish point for tours into the Eifel or the cathedral city. The imposing reception building of the old Kaiserbahnhof (built in 1877) now houses a restaurant with a beer garden, where waiting times - which the DB is happy to take care of - can be bridged wonderfully. As the name suggests, Emperor Wilhelm I also regularly stopped here on the way to the Eifel.
It is also worth taking a tour of the adjacent Kaiserpark, where several sculptures can be discovered ...
