The 48-hectare Voßberg nature reserve, popularly known as the Everinghauser dunes, is located between Ottersberg and Hellwege in the Wümmen lowlands north of the Wümme and is part of the much larger "Wümmen lowlands with Rodau, Wiedau and Trochelbach" nature reserve (2,896 ha).

Here, in the Wümmen lowlands, we find the last larger, open shifting dunes (inland dunes). These were created by the river sands of the Wümme from the Weichselian during the last glacial period.

In order to minimize sand movement, pine trees and marram grass have been planted in some areas in the past. In the Wümme dunes we find a number of remarkable vascular plants (especially herbs and grasses), lichen and fungus species as well as some rare animal species that have been preserved here.

These include the woodlark, the ant lion and various bee and wasp species. But the area is also a retreat for the fox. He is also the namesake, since in the Low German language the fox is called Voß.
