The Fegebankswarte was one of the Eichsfeld waiting areas, built in the late Middle Ages as an observation tower to protect against approaching enemies. It is considered the most important Eichsfeld observation point because the Eichsfeld estates once met annually and clarified important issues of the Eichsfeld state because the sovereign was in Mainz and therefore very far away. All that remains is a memorial stone and a rest area with a view of Heiligenstadt.
