This cemetery was built in a star shape after 1923 (after detonation of explosives and at the start of reforestation) and has an area of 5 ha 24 a. Most Belgians died in the vicinity during the final offensive that started on September 28, 1918.
The Italians were prisoners of war in the German army. Among other things, they had to supply ammunition via the narrow gauge lines. Many died in that situation under the fire of their allied allies. They are buried at the back of the cemetery against the edge of the forest.

LAST RESTING PLACE FOR THE FINAL OFFENSIVE 28/09/1918 and 81 Italian POWs
1723 Belgian and 81 Italian prisoners of war are buried in this Belgian military cemetery.
This cemetery was laid out in a star shape after 1923 and has an area of 5 ha.

Most of the Belgian soldiers died in this area during the final offensive that started on September 28, 1918.
At the back of the forest edge, 81 Italian prisoners of war are also buried. For the Germans, they had to supply ammunition via narrow gauges to the front line. Many died in that situation under the fire of the Allies. Far from Italy they were given a respectful final resting place here.
