    From the Schlottwitz train station, the path up is really tough. In a large loop it goes up steeply and gravelly. Until you reach the saddle you have a lot of crank work here.
    Then it is really nice between the many fruit trees.

    "In the early days of the Erzgebirge settlement, iron was won in many places without this being mentioned in any documents. The raw material for the village and traveling blacksmiths was an indispensable prerequisite for clearing the forest and plowing the soil. [.. .] One [of the] smelting works stood near the mouth of the Trebnitz (now a factory site) - in the 19th century today's Oberschlottwitz still bore the name "Hütten" [...] It was easier to bring the iron ore to the wood stores than vice versa - but that should have been difficult enough given the road conditions at that time.The transport took place on the iron roads, of which there were several, but the best known of which led from the mines in Gottleubatal to the "New Smithy" - today's Schmiedeberg Eisenstraße crossed the Müglitztal in "Hütten", so that this hammer mill could also be supplied.

    At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, fruit-growing associations all over Saxony were committed to planting apples, cherries and pears on the streets. [...] A fine example of historic fruit growing stretches along the Old Iron Road between Schlottwitz and Cunnersdorf. The Green League East-Erzgebirge took care of the old trees and also planted many new ones.
