The town church of St. Jakob in Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a must when visiting the city: In addition to the Holy Blood Altar by Tilman Riemenschneider, the east choir impresses with its colorful windows in the morning - so get up early when the sun is shining. The church is open from 9 a.m.

The Rothenburg main church St. Jakob was completed in 1485. The church was built for 173 years. Inside you can find the Twelve Messenger Altar by Friedrich Herlin in the east and the Holy Blood Altar, created by the Würzburg sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider, on the gallery in the west wing.

The St. Jacob's Church in Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the destination of all pilgrims on the Central Franconian Way of St. James, which leads here from Nuremberg over a total length of almost 100 km. A life-size figure of the Apostle James stands in front of the church and points out the special importance of this church for pilgrims. As a pilgrim to St. James, visitors have free entry to the church by identifying themselves with their stamp or pilgrim pass.
