After the damming of the Seehamer lake by means of two dams and the completion of the 6.7 km long supply tunnel from the Leitzach, power generation in Vagen began in 1913. The power plant took advantage of the 128 m difference in altitude to Seehamer See and generated with four turbines of 4 MW each, a capacity of 16 MW. In the years 1919 and 1929, the power was increased by two turbines, each with five MW to a total of 24 MW. In the course of the last expansion, pumps were installed and an underwater basin with 800,000 m³ of storage capacity was created, thus converting the power plant into a pumped storage power plant. In 1929, a tunnel was also opened, which leads water from the Mangfall and Schlierach in the Seehamer Lake and thus increases the performance.
