The picturesque Germana Chapel is definitely worth a detour when you're in the Much area. It lies on the route of several hiking trails. Next to the chapel there are a few tables and benches that invite you to have a picnic.

As early as 1710 there was a holy house near Wersch, which was replaced in 1714 by a permanent chapel. Pastor Friedrich Wilhelm Adams from Much (1871-1890) carried out an extension in 1887.

Shortly before (1867) Germana had been canonized. She is considered the patroness of shepherds. Since many girls in the Mucher Land had to look after cattle at that time, Pastor Adams continued this new patronage of shepherds.
Germana was born near Toulouse in 1579 and died in 1601. Her life was marked by poverty. Treated badly by her stepmother, she was not allowed to go to school but had to herd sheep year in and year out. She shared her meager bread with a poor old woman. When her coffin was opened 43 years later, the corpse was undecomposed.

The Germana Chapel is the only chapel in the Archdiocese of Cologne in which St. Germana is worshiped. It is located southwest of the former youth hostel, today's Hotel FIT, and can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot from Much.
