Tanzania received support from the then friendly GDR in the 80s. A plate settlement was built on the outskirts of Stone Town. Certainly the current sight is rather bleak, but in fact these residential silos are more popular than one might think at first because of the running water, electricity and dense roof. Current construction scandals leave many properties unfinished or abandoned in the landscape.
